CADMAPPER is the best-known name in the category, and for good reasons: any extract on the world map, up to 1 km² free, worldwide coverage, building heights and topography, plus over 200 complete metropolitan street networks without signing up. For many tasks it is the right choice and stays the right choice. There are three verifiable reasons to look around anyway – all three follow from what the service states itself. 01### Paid above 1 km² – with no price stated The free extract stops at 1 km² and requires an account. For up to 100 km² CADMAPPER only says „a small fee" and names no amount; if you have to budget in advance, you cannot. 02### The export is a raw data extract A generator delivers geometry, not a finished plan. Sorting layers, deciding the presentation, setting the scale and the sheet layout all remain work on your own machine. If you need a print-ready figure-ground plan, buying one is faster than preparing it. 03### ODbL obligations travel with the file According to its terms, CADMAPPER places the files under the ODbL. Commercial use is permitted, but requires attribution and share-alike. If you would rather not carry that into a client project, you need a provider with its own licence. The data is collected collaboratively and its completeness varies by region – that applies to generators and to purchased plans alike, ours included. ### Preparation Raw export or finished plan? Closed building polygons, named layers and a fixed scale are the difference between an hour of rework and none. ### License ODbL with attribution and share-alike for raw exports, an own licence at curated shops. For commercial projects this is the most important point. ### Extract A generator can do any spot on earth, a catalogue only the cities it holds. Conversely, a catalogue plan is ready in two minutes. The plan is generated client-side in the browser from OpenStreetMap data, and the source code is on GitHub under AGPL-3.0. Besides OpenStreetMap, CAD Atlas also uses Overture Maps, government cadastral records and elevation models. Its licence page declares the deliveries ODbL 1.0 works with share-alike. The provider states itself that the plans contain no topography and, because different coordinate systems are used, are not delivered at a fixed scale – you set scale and units in CAD yourself. The catalogue is built around figure-ground drawings; if you need a different city or a different extract, you will find it there as little as with us.
